Upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV – All Key Details We Know

GaadiWaadi –

Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is expected to launch in India early next year and will be offered with two battery pack options

Toyota’s upcoming all-electric SUV for India, the Urban Cruiser BEV, had already made its global debut and was later showcased to Indian audiences at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. Built on the same platform as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, the Urban Cruiser BEV will become Toyota’s big entry into the midsize EV space but its launch timeline remains a speculation.

While Maruti Suzuki has already rolled out the new Victoris SUV, its much-anticipated e Vitara is yet to hit the roads. Toyota’s Urban Cruiser BEV, which shares a lot with the e Vitara, is expected to make its market entry only after its cousin. Production for both models will take place at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s facility in Gujarat.

Toyota had earlier lined up the Urban Cruiser BEV’s European debut for late 2025 with the model set to feature two LFP battery packs and an AWD configuration. At 4,285 mm long and riding on a 2,700 mm wheelbase, it vows to offer a roomier cabin than the e Vitara it is based on. The Indian version is expected to stick very close to the global spec.

The entry-spec variant of the Urban Cruiser BEV will use a 49 kWh battery paired with a front-wheel-drive system producing 144 hp. Customers seeking more performance can opt for the bigger 61 kWh pack which comes in both FWD and AWD versions. While the FWD layout delivers 174 hp, the AWD trim gets an extra 48 kW motor at the rear – taking total output up to 184 hp.

Toyota says the five-seater will be capable of covering over 500 km per charge with DC fast-charging tech ensuring reduced downtime. It will play a key role in the company’s future EV roadmap. It will go up against Hyundai Creta Electric, forthcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Tata Harrier and Curvv EVs, Mahindra XEV 9e, etc.
