Hyundai is developing an India-specific electric vehicle for the near future and it could target high volume sales, positioned below the Creta Electric
At its CEO Investor Day recently, Hyundai laid out its most aggressive product roadmap to date. By 2030, the company is aiming for 5.55 million global sales with close to 60 per cent of that volume expected to come from electrified vehicles. The strategy hinges on expanding both EVs and hybrids, getting into new body styles and next-gen software along with ramping up production capacity worldwide.
Hyundai has set itself an ambitious target of clocking 3.3 million electrified sales annually by 2030. To get there, the group will roll out over 18 hybrid models – extending it to its luxury arm Genesis as well. Among the confirmed products is the Palisade Hybrid while Genesis will start embracing hybrids from as early as next year.
Interestingly, the brand is also evaluating whether its premium Genesis portfolio can find a place in the Indian market. Hyundai is also laying the groundwork for its first Extended Range EVs slated for 2027. These models promise up to 965 km on a single charge thanks to advanced battery/engine integration.

The brand has confirmed plans to re-enter the North American pickup market before 2030 with an all-new midsize truck – expanding on the foundation already set by the Santa Cruz. Alongside this, Hyundai is eyeing growth in commercial mobility – vans and fuel cell trucks are firmly in the pipeline for the United States.
As for the passenger EV class, Hyundai has outlined a region-specific strategy. The Ioniq 3 is being targetted at Europe while India is set to receive its first homegrown Hyundai EV while China will host production of the Elexio SUV alongside a new electric sedan. The India-bound EV is expected to appeal to customers in the mass market space.

We do expect it to take plenty of inspiration from Hyundai’s existing sub-4m SUVs such as the Venue and Exter while also getting influenced by the global Inster Electric and it will more likely be slotted below the Creta Electric. It could be priced aggressively courtesy of high local content and expect it to be available with two battery options.
The second largest car producer in India is currently planning to launch the new generation Venue in the coming months while the facelifted Ioniq 5, i20 and Verna have also been caught running trials in recent weeks.
