In the list of top 10 compact SUVs in August 2025, Tata Nexon led the way ahead of Maruti Suzuki duo of Brezza and Fronx, and Tata Punch
The compact SUV space continued to dominate the Indian PV market in August 2025. The Tata Nexon emerged on top of the charts with 14,004 units sold – marking a healthy 14 per cent year-on-year growth over the same month last year. Its wide range of powertrain options along with frequent updates have helped it remain a consistent volume driver.
Following close behind was the Maruti Suzuki Brezza which clocked 13,620 units. However, the model registered a sharp 29 per cent decline compared to August 2024 when it was comfortably ahead of the pack. Despite the drop, the Brezza remains a strong pillar in Maruti’s SUV lineup thanks to its fuel-efficient petrol option and the extensive reach of the brand’s sales and service network.
Maruti’s other big seller, the Fronx, managed 12,422 units in last month as against 12,387 units during the same period in 2024 with an almost flat growth – indicating its stability in a competitive space. Positioned as a more stylish alternative within Maruti’s portfolio, the Fronx has been steadily building its base among customers.

The Tata Punch recorded unit sales of 10,704 units but that translated into a steep 32 per cent drop year-on-year. Once a blockbuster performer, the Punch now faces stiff competition from rivals in the segment. Hyundai’s Venue secured the fifth spot with 8,109 units sold, down by 11 per cent compared to August last year.
While it continues to be a core product for Hyundai in India, the growing demand for alternatives in the same price band has diluted its momentum but the arrival of a brand new generation in early November should help it regain volumes.

The Sonet followed with 7,741 units – reporting a 23 per cent decline year-on-year. Meanwhile, Mahindra’s XUV 3XO posted 5,521 units, a significant 39 per cent decline compared to last August. The price drops of up to Rs. 1.56 lakh due to GST 2.0 restructuring and the festive season may pump up the demand.
The Hyundai Exter sold 5,061 units, recording a 24 per cent drop from last year’s 6,632 units as it finished in the eighth position. Skoda’s recently launched Kylaq managed 3,099 units while the Toyota Taisor wrapped up the list with 2,683 units – down 16 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
