The new-gen Renault Duster was recently spotted testing in its production-ready guise; expected to go on sale early next year
The midsize SUV market is expected to grow in the coming years, and in line with this, car manufacturers are developing new products. Apart from this, the updates and next-gen models of the current nameplates are also on the cards. Let’s look at the 5 upcoming midsize SUVs spied testing in India.
1. New-Gen Kia Seltos

Kia is working on the next-generation model of the Seltos for the Indian as well as global markets. Expected to debut in the country early next year, the midsize SUV has been spotted testing in a fully camouflaged guise. It will get a new front fascia with a set of vertically stacked DRLs, a new bumper and grille, along with a revised rear profile. The new-gen Kia Seltos is expected to carry forward the existing powertrain options. In addition to this, a strong hybrid engine option is also expected to be a part of the package.
2. New Renault Duster

The Duster is one of the most anticipated SUVs in the Indian market, and it has been spotted on test runs several times. The design will largely resemble the global spec model, albeit with minor revisions. The third-generation model is expected to debut early next year, and it will be based on the CMF-B platform. The Duster will be a petrol-only model, and it will likely get the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, putting out 154 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The strong hybrid powertrain is expected to arrive at a later stage.
3. Renault Boreal 7-Seater SUV

Alongside the new Duster, Renault will also introduce a new 7-seater SUV in the Indian market, and it is expected to launch in the second half of 2026. Likely to be dubbed Boreal, the three-row SUV was spotted testing on domestic soil in July. The 7-seater SUV will share the CMF-B platform with the Duster, and it will be longer than the Duster, with an extended wheelbase. The Bigster SUV will share the powertrain with the Duster, including the 154 bhp 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, and the 155 bhp 1.6-litre petrol strong hybrid option is also under consideration for the India-spec model.
4. Nissan Creta-Rival SUV

The Renault Duster will also spawn a Nissan counterpart in the Indian market. Expected to debut in the country around mid-2026, the Nissan C-segment SUV was recently spotted testing with heavy camouflage. It will share the CMF-B platform and powertrain with the Duster. The design, however, will be quite different, and the test mule shares some resemblance to the official teaser image shared by the Japanese carmaker last year. Inside the cabin, we can expect minor changes, but the feature set will likely be quite similar to the Duster.
5. Tata Sierra

The Tata Sierra has been long due in the Indian market, and we have been spotting its test prototypes around the country on a regular basis. The iconic SUV nameplate will be offered in both ICE and EV versions. The Sierra EV is expected to arrive first, most probably in the coming months, followed by its ICE counterpart early next year, i.e. 2026. The Sierra EV could share the battery packs with the Harrier EV, comprising 65 kWh and 75 kWh units. Meanwhile, the ICE Sierra will likely be powered by a new 1.5-litre tGDi petrol engine, along with the familiar 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine.
