New Gen Toyota Hilux To Likely Debut Next Month – All Key Details

GaadiWaadi –

New gen Toyota Hilux is expected to make its world premiere at the Thailand Motor Expo late next month

Over eight generations, the Toyota Hilux established itself as one of the world’s toughest and most enduring vehicles while selling more than 19 million units globally. Key milestones include the introduction of four-wheel drive in the late 1970s, partnerships with US firms to create SUV-style versions and the birth of the Toyota 4Runner/Hilux Surf wagons.

The Hilux originated from Toyota’s collaboration with Hino Motors and replaced the Briska and Lite Stout models. Built on a rugged ladder frame chassis, its no-nonsense engineering, durability in harsh conditions and gradual improvement in comfort and versatility fostered a legacy where the Hilux is now widely used by civilians, armed forces and adventure seekers worldwide.

The pickup truck was launched in India in January 2022 officially and is assembled at TKM’s Karnataka plant. It has also been well received by customers in India. The latest generation has been available across the globe since 2015 and word from Thailand suggests that the heavily revised next-gen model is only weeks away from being shown to the public.

Local Thai publications claim that the ninth generation Hilux is set to debut at the Thailand Motor Expo which runs between November 28 and December 10, 2025. Patent sketches and spy images have already given enthusiasts a fair look at the design. Expect to see a taller front grille ensuring an upright fascia, slender headlamps and possibly an LED light strip.

The rear end will also get notable tweaks including new tail lamps while squared-off wheel arches with thick plastic cladding will also be available. At the core, the Japanese auto major appears to have retained the IMV ladder frame setup rather than migrating to the newer TNGA-F chassis used by the Tacoma and Land Cruiser. Mechanical updates are still on the horizon though.

Reports indicate that the addition of electric power steering, a suite of driver assistive systems and more upmarket trims and materials inside the cabin. The familiar 2.8-litre diesel motor, rated at 201 hp, already features 48-volt mild-hybrid technology but a plug-in hybrid version is said to be in development for 2026.

Performance fans may be drawn to the possibility of a GR Hilux. Toyota could adapt the Tacoma’s 2.4-litre i-Force Max hybrid – giving the pickup around 326 hp and 465 630 Nm of torque. There are also strong hints from the brand that a fully electric Hilux will appear before the year is out. Patent filings also confirm a new interior treatment with a fully digital instrument console and a large infotainment screen.
