Updated Mahindra Thar 3-door gets minor cosmetic enhancements and new features including a 26.03 cm HD touchscreen infotainment system
Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced the updated version of the Thar in India today. Prices begin at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and the new model gets notable updates inside and out. The exterior has been reworked mildly with the presence of a two-tone grille coupled with a dual-tone bumper while the lighting systems and the 18-inch alloy wheels remain the same.
Customers can choose from six paint schemes with Tango Red and Battleship Grey making their debut on the palette. Inside, the cabin has been given a darker and more premium vibe with an all-black dashboard layout and a new steering wheel. The second row passengers now get rear AC vents while the driver benefits from a sliding armrest and in automatic versions, a dedicated dead pedal.
Power windows shift to the door pads and additions such as a rear camera, rear wash and wiper and internally operated fuel lid should help improve practicality. Mahindra has also added an A-pillar assist handle to make climbing in and out easier. The most important update is that the SUV now features a 26.03 cm HD touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

It is complemented by Type-C charging ports in both rows along with Tyre Direction Monitoring System while off-roaders will appreciate Adventure Stats Gen II, which logs data like altitude, trip details, tyre pressure and steering angle in real time. Under the bonnet, Mahindra continues to offer the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol which churns out 150 hp and up to 320 Nm of torque depending on transmission.
The familiar 2.2-litre mHawk diesel delivers 130 hp maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque. There’s also a D117 CRDe diesel mill tuned at 117 hp with 300 Nm. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic unit – paired with either rear-wheel drive or a 4X4 system with electric driveline disconnect.

The Thar range is available in AXT and LXT trims. The entry-spec AXT, priced from Rs. 9.99 lakh comes with dual airbags, ESP with roll-over mitigation, hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, and a new dashboard design. The higher-spec LXT variants add alloy wheels, cruise control, Adventure Stats Gen II, rear camera and a larger infotainment system with six speakers among other upgrades.
