Hyundai is expected to launch the next-generation Creta in 2027, featuring a strong hybrid powertrain
The top car manufacturers in India are working on new hybrid cars for the domestic market. These include the likes of the Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Hyundai, with multiple strong hybrid models in the pipeline. Let’s look at the upcoming new hybrid cars in India from Maruti, Mahindra and Hyundai.
Maruti Suzuki is working on an in-house HEV Series hybrid technology, also known as a range extender hybrid. The Fronx will be the first car in the brand’s line-up to use this new hybrid system, and its test mule has already been spotted a few times. It will be powered by the familiar 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine, paired with the hybrid components.
In addition to this, the next-gen Baleno is expected to be powered by the series hybrid system, which is due for a launch by the end of 2026 or early 2027. This hybrid technology will reportedly enhance the fuel efficiency, delivering claimed figures of over 30 kmpl.

Apart from this, the series hybrid powertrain could also be extended to the Brezza. With the revised GST rates, the compact SUV comes under a higher tax slab, which takes away the competitive pricing edge it had over the rivals. The smaller capacity engine paired to a hybrid system will help Maruti to price it par with the rivals, along with ensuring good fuel efficiency numbers.
Mahindra is also working on the development of a strong hybrid powertrain for the XUV3XO. Internally codenamed S226, the brand’s first hybrid model in the Indian market is expected to hit the roads sometime in 2026. The XUV3XO hybrid will employ the familiar 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine mated with the strong hybrid setup.

A range extended hybrid powertrain for the the INGLO-based BE 6 and XEV 9e are also under evaluation. According to the reports, The technical development of this project has already started, and it will likely use the 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) will debut the next-gen Creta in 2027 with a strong hybrid powertrain. Internally codenamed SX3, the hybrid system could employ the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The Korean carmaker is also working on a new hybrid 7-seater SUV, which is due for a launch in 2027. It could share the strong hybrid setup with the new-gen Creta, however, nothing can be confirmed as of now.
