Mahindra Planning To Launch 4 New ICE And Hybrid SUVs

Mahindra set to launch a wide range of high-volume ICE and hybrid models across SUV segments, targeting mainstream buyers

In addition to a slew of new electric SUVs, Mahindra is planning no less than four new ICE and hybrid SUVs for India. The company had previously planned to directly transition from ICE vehicles to EVs, but has revised its strategy in response to evolving market demand.

The first of the four upcoming Mahindra ICE and hybrid SUVs will be the facelifted XUV700. The facelifted XUV700 is likely to feature a new front fascia with redesigned headlamps, a revised six-slot grille, refreshed bumpers, and new 18-inch wheels. Inside, a sleeker dashboard featuring a triple-screen setup similar to the XEV 9e and a new steering wheel featuring an illuminated logo are expected.

Also due in 2026 is a hybrid variant of the XUV 3XO. Mahindra is expected to offer it with a series-hybrid powertrain that uses a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine as a generator, only to charge a small traction battery pack that feeds an electric motor.

In 2027, Mahindra will likely launch the production version of the Vision.S concept it unveiled in August. It will be a sub-4 metre model benefitting from the low 18% GST rate. A blocky exterior design and a high ground clearance would give it a masculine and rugged character and distinguish it from all other sub-4 metre SUVs, including Mahindra’s own XUV 3XO.

The production version of the Vision.S concept will be based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ monocoque platform, which supports ICE, HEV, and BEV applications. Leveraging this flexibility, Mahindra may introduce at least one electrified variant at a later stage, depending on consumer response and market trends.

EV demand is growing at a pace slower than the industry expected, and considering the BE 6e and XEV 9e’s small volumes, Mahindra sees an opportunity in hybrid variants to broaden their appeal, attracting new buyers not yet ready to commit to an EV.

Mahindra company will likely offer the BE 6e and XEV 9e with a range-extender series-hybrid powertrain in which the gas engine only serves as a generator to charge the high-voltage battery pack, and additionally, an onboard charger is present to charge the same via an external charger. It is expected to employ a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the EREV (extended-range electric vehicle).
