Mercedes-Benz G 450d uses a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to produce 362 hp and 750 Nm

Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the new G 450d – marking the return of a diesel powertrain to the G-Class portfolio in the country after a long time. With petrol, diesel and electric options now available, the G-Class is now offered in an expansive range. The heart of the G 450d is a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

Producing 362 hp maximum power and 750 Nm of peak torque, the integrated starter generator delivers an additional 20 hp boost at low engine speeds. The setup allows the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 kmph. The SUV continues to employ ladder-frame construction, three mechanical differential locks, and a combination of double wishbone front suspension with a rigid rear axle.

Ground clearance between axles stands at 241 mm with approach and departure angles of 31° and 30°, a breakover angle of 26°, maximum fording depth of 70 cm and 100 per cent gradeability on suitable surfaces. Two-tone Nappa leather, MANUFAKTUR customisation options, and the Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos are some of the key highlights.

Mercedes-Benz has also updated the exterior with new bumpers featuring vertical louvers, A-pillar cladding and a roof-edge spoiler to improve aerodynamics and cabin quietness along with 20-inch AMG alloy wheels gaining a high-gloss black finish. The radiator grille now has four horizontal louvers – distinguishing the new G 450d while keeping the classic silhouette in place.
